| Training: WMD / CBRNE Response |

The CBRNE Sampling course is intended to prepare hazardous materials (hazMat) teams within local and State emergency response agencies to safely and effectively conduct public safety operations at known or suspected weapons of mass destruction (WMD) incident scenes. These response operations will be conducted in a manner consistent with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guidelines for crime scene management. The procedures used during the public safety sampling operations should also be in compliance with Occupational Safety and health Administration (OSHA) 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CfR) 1910.120 (q). During this workshop, students will learn about different types of explosives and how to deal with bomb threats in their communities. The first segment will be dedicated to the recognition of commercial and homemade devices, the three phases of a bomb blast, and what to do if faced with an improvised explosive device (IED). Students will see firsthand inert commercial explosives and IEDs. The second segment will be devoted to bomb threat management, how to handle bomb threats if they occur in your community, what information is important to get from a caller, who should decide when to evacuate a building, and how to search for IEDs. This course will examine suicide bombings and ways emergency responders can prepare for, and respond to, incidents that may involve suicide bombers acting within the United States. The overall course objective is to provide students with the basic knowledge they need to effectively assist with their agency’s overall prevention, deterrence, mitigation, and response effort to this new threat. Prerequisites: HM 101 & WMD 101 |

This course will explore the different types, features, and limitations of commercially available detection instruments for weapons of mass destruction (WMD) chemicals and materials, as well as decontamination options and requirements for victims of, and responders to, a WMD incident. Prerequisites: HM 103 & WMD 103 |
